Wocka Wocka!

My children always make me do the Muppet voices. For some reason, God gifted me with the strange gift of imitation. And of course, there's lots of voices for the Muppets. I had no idea until recently that Jim Henson actually voiced most of the Muppet characters himself. And now, I carry on that tradition in true Muppet fashion with my children.

If you know me well, you know that I'm one crazy cat! So of course my children are CUH-RAZY too! They are always asking me to do Fozzy Bear, especially the line from the new Muppets movie where he says, "Check it out! Fart shoes! (fart fart fart...)" Or, they make me do Kermit saying, "Kermit the frog here..." Or the Staler and Waldorf making fun of somebody. You remember them right? The two old men who were always hurling insults at someone? I love those guys!

So why am I having an 80s flashback? Because when you're working in the poop-room by yourself, painting away, you need just a little something to keep your mind from imploding in on itself! And what's the best way to stave off the apoopalypse than to have a little fun?! So, I've been entertaining myself and the others by doing a little improv. But don't worry, I don't do two shows a night any more.

Today was, however, a very fun day! Since we don't have a radio to keep us entertained, and there's only so much of me that people can stand, we sing songs to each other. We have our own little "playlist" of songs that we sing. I started out with this one, and then this one came up somehow, and then this one came up and gave us a good laugh! Each day the playlist changes.

Today we were singing hymns, and it was actually quite nice. As we were singing, we hear Suad (the lady whose house we are painting) begin to sing the same hymn, but in Arabic! How cool is that? So we were singing the same hymn in different languages. The song had the same meaning to all of us.

And that's how it works, right folks? Often times we're singing the same song in two different languages. We get confused because we can't understand what the other person is saying and then we get frustrated. Instead of listening to the melody, we're listening to each others words. If we would just stop our brains from working so darn hard and slow down enough to actually hear the melody that someone else is singing, then maybe we would realize that we're singing the same song! Maybe it's a good idea for all of us to sit down and listen to someone else's song. Then we might realize that we're singing with one voice.
